The Cultural Spirit In Chen Xiangmeil's Literary Works

This thesis, The Cultural Spirit in Chen Xiang Mei's Literary Works, is the first comprehensive research on Chen Xiang Mei and her literary works. Chen is an important writer in modern Chinese literary history. In this piece of research one of my aims is to show how cultural studies help us understand Chen's sentiments on the ideas of nation, the world and life, the writer's opinions about love, culture, thoughts and politics, To do this, Chen Xaing Mei is examined under a context of world culture and to show how the conflicts and the syntheses of Eastern and Western cultures affect her ideas toward woman, marriage, family and philosophy.A second aim of my study is to discuss Chen Xiang Mei's works under the category of woman literature instead of an issue of feminism. Emphases will be on areas such as human nature, woman's inner world, feelings and the natural development of woman's characteristics. The essence of my discussion is to demonstrate Chen's unique understanding of the significance of woman and her humanitarian orientation. This research also studies the natural characteristics of woman and the history of both sexes.Lastly, this study not only analyzes Chen Xiang Mei' s cultural spirit from woman 1 iterature' s point of view but also from historical and sociological perspectives. Chen Xiang Mei is considered a cultural phenomenon under various perspectives. In fact, Chen' s literary works exemplify the divergences and the similarities of Chinese and Western cultures. I believe Chen Xiang Mei is a special and significant cultural phenomenon in modern Chinese literature and culture.
