"Zhi Qing" writers are a group of young intellectuals whose writings centered common experiences and personal experiences of adolescence. This dissertation focuses on this kind of experiences in hope of exploring the spiritual and cultural characteristics and the historical formation of "Zhi Qing" writers. The dissertation, in the first place, introduces and analyzes the initial stage of literary creation of "Zhi Qing" writers in terms of cultural background, thoughts-nurturing, literary training and personal talents, traces the gradual development of spiritual awakening and aesthetic preferences in correspondence with the vicissitudes of the society and ups and downs of their personal lives to explore the social and cultural causes of the appearance of the "Zhi Qing" writers. It also detects the spiritual essence and the psychological abyss of the "Zhi Qing" writers and makes clear the relationship and inner transforming mechanism between their psyche and the changing times and further explores the spiritual development and the limitations of their literary creation as the group split up, therefore fully establishes the spiritual quintessence and the literary image of "Zhi Qing" writers. It is stated in this dissertation that thanks to a better literary education compared with the contemporaries and life-long efforts to seek and grasp the opportunities to study, think and get literary-creation training, although they lived in a cultural desert at that point in time, "Zhi Qing" writers with almost the same psyche and humor have timely exerted profound influence as a literary group. This psyche is a typical one of the age of "paradise lost" when they spent their adolescence. Their different poses of the self-examination, appraisement of rural culture and the pursuit of the times and trends in the eighties are based on this psyche; their perspectives in the early nineties, an era of social changes, be it critical or catering to or falling behind the trends of the times, simultaneously originate from this psyche. In due course, "Zhi Qing" writers deviate in their literary creation hi line with their individual pursuit of the truths of life and history, nevertheless their creation is to a extent limited by this psyche. Therefore the experiences of "Zhi Qing" writers and the psyche of "paradise lost" are the shaping factors of their spiritual contours and fundamentally affect their literary creation as well as the contemporary Chinese literature.
