Most of the important contents of Greek myths and legends relate the topic of revenge, it is to say, except for the part of describing revenge only a little of Greek myths and legends can be left. The whole system of Greek myths begins at the revenge of Cronos to Uranus. After it comes the revenge of Zeus to Cronos, upon which borns the new theogony that is finally solidified after repressing the revenge of the giants from Tartarus. Then there are the revenges often happening between the new gods who venge many of impious humankind meanwhile. Thus, nearly all the gods in myths have conducted, at least have been mixed up in, revenge events. Apart from the gods above, none of the gods like Hera, Hades, Poseidon, Apollo, Artemis, Athena, Aphrodite, Ares, Hephaestus, Demeter, Hermes and Dionysus can be excluded from revenge events. The other minor gods can have a place in myths generally just because of their stories of revenges. Likewise, Greek legends, such as the stories of Jason, Heracles and Oedipus, are all narrative of the topic of revenge. As for the large scale of Trojan War, it outbreaks just because that Paris, son of the chieftain of Troy, abducts Helen, wife of Spartan chieftain Menelaus who then tries his best to do revenge on the city. The most important part of the legend of Odysseus is his final revenge on the courts. Therefore, we may conclude that the topic of revenge underlies the peculiarly important section of the whole system of Greek myths and legends. The revenge events are just like the incalculable glistering stars in the sky of myths and legends, ruling out which the sky will get hugely pale without any essential contents in. The deep cause of that may consist in that the topic involves keen stagy conflicts, fascinating and exaggerating process which lefts readers enough space to phantasy freely, and cruel outcomes that image the characteristic of barbarity and violence in the early human society. It is significent to explore the topic of revenge in Greek myths and legends concentratedly and by the numbers. At first, we enter on the realistic soil that produces revenge phenomenon to identify that revenge is the guideline of behaviours in the early human society before law coming into being formally. Then, people behave according to primitive moral, the important part of which is to perform in earnest the glory but hardy responsibility of revenge that there is no shirking. If escaping from the duty, a man will be scorned and hence foreign to the title of hero. The feeling of responsibility, as a part of the inheriting moral, influences people's conducts till contemporary time when some problems can't depend on the imperfecting law and have to be resolved in the primitive means even risking the jural punishment. Law can't be perfected finally and can see no way to resolve completely the moral problems, accordingly, phenomenon of revenge can't be exterminated from realistic society once for all. Meanwhile, phenomenon of revenge related intimately to the instinct impulse of animals which represents particularly in the primitive society and can't be ironed out by the contemporary law. When the impulse of revenge breaks out, blooding events will happen, which is one of the basical causes that revenge exists, ever and forever. From the ancient time to now, revenge have been reflected in a good many literature works. So, from the history of world literature, we may draw out a book on the history of revenge literature. Therefore, setting about, the springhead of European literature, I hope the thesis may lie at anchor for the research on the aftertime revenge literature. Secondly, through exploring the essentials of the gods' relation to human being, we may get out the sameness and differences between two of them inconsanguineous, honorary and love reveng, thereby, we may arrive at plenty cognition for revenge in both of literature works and practical life. I also hope the work avail to research in topics of violence, moral, love and honour that interlaces tightlywith the one of revenge...
