In addition, "uniqueness" is more suitable to be applied to Mao Dun to best show his relationship with modern literature. Mao Dun's uniqueness in literature can best describe his contributions to literature and culture, which raises people's understanding of his contributions to a higher level. Therefore, adopted is a comparative method to study Mao Dun's uniqueness. In the chapter "Mao Dun and Modern Chinese Novels", instead of the contributions Mao Dun has made to modern Chinese novels, the author reveals Mao Dun's understanding of China through the novels written by him. Mao Dun's unique understanding of China is exposed in the lives and struggles of females, intellectuals, capitalists and peasants, described in his novels. In the chapter "Mao Dun and Realism", due to many previous studies on Mao Dun's realistic structures and realistic content, the author only focuses on how Mao Dun's literary realism is formed, the likelihood for the formation of his literary realism, and the final ending resulted from the likelihood. Therefore, for the sake of comparison, Hu Feng's and Zhou Yang's realistic theories are also listed. In the chapter "Mao Dun and Left-wing Literature", the author examines Mao Dun's left-wing literary viewpoint, and Mao Dun's dependence on and surpassing of, Left-wing Association, which show his contradictory: he leans heavily on left-wing organizations and plays an important role in left-wing literature; he also sets certain standard to left-wing literature (revolutionary literature) to make it go beyond the majority of revolutionary writers..In the chapter "Mao Dun and Modern Literary Reviews", there are three sections: review on literary works, review on writers and review on literary history. Due to many studies on the first section, no further study ismade here in this book. While the review on writers plays an important role in Mao Dun's literary reviews and many studies are made on this, the author still makes a study on this section from another angle. Review on literary history is an important part in Mao Dun's modern literary reviews, which was less studied in the previous studies on Mao Dun. In fact, in the eyes of the author, in contemporary and even modern literary histories, the writers all follow Mao Dun's mode of writing. In the chapter "Mao Dun and Modern Writers", three writers are chosen for comparison, who are closely connected with Mao Dun: Lu Xun, Qu Qiu-bai and Zheng Zhen-duo. By a comparison of them to Mao Dun, a strong relationship will be found between Mao Dun and modern literature. In the last chapter, a discussion is made of resources for Mao Dun's literary creation. Those resources are the root of Mao Dun's literary creation and show a deep relationship between Mao Dun and modern literature.
