This dissertation is focused on E Husserl's intentionality. It includes six chapters. The first chapter is devoted to studying the intentional being by medieval philosopher Peter Aureol. His way of posing the problem of intentional being, the evolution of the problem and the equivocation of the term "presence" indicate that intentionality philosophy has ever existed in the late medieval philosophy, and that Peter Aureol's intentional being marks the formation of the problem domain of intentionality. The rationality of studying intentionality as a philosophical problem lies in the problem domain, which is composed of such sub-problems as the types of objects, the types of acts, the tension among act, content and object, the way of posing intentionality, and its evolution. The second chapter and the third one characterize the dominant paradigms of intentionality and their inter-relation in the last investigations in "Logical Investigations".The two chapters indicate that Husserl's intentionality is always changing in the course of its manifestation, that a unique paradigm is only conditioned by abstracting.Different paradigms of intentionality conflict with and differentiate from each other in some way,but they also share some bordering aspects. They contribute together to the formation of the problem domain of intentionality -its depth, broadth and the fundamental condition for the further transformation of intentionality. The fourth chapter is devoted to studying intentionality in "Ideas I ",with reference to "Logical Iinvestigation"as the background of the study. In this chapter the phenomenological reduction is discussed in the context of the problem of intentionality. Moreover, the competence and incompetence of Husserl's intentionality theory in explaining the intentional relation and coordinating the diverse paradigms of intentionality present in "Logical Investigation", is studied systematically and thoroughly. It is necessary to point out that the chapter discusses the coincidence and divergence of intentionality taking into considerations the relevant problems. The fifth chapter studies the possibility and reality of the co-existence of two dimensions in Husserl's intentionality theory, that is to say, the content-theory and the object-theory.The co-existence embodies the proper originality in Husserl'sphenomenology. The sixth chapter deals with the relationship between Husserl's theory on intentionality and contemporary philosophy of languge. This chapter argues that Husserl's intentionality is able to survive the challege to psychologism by some contemporary philosophers of language ,that the ignorance of intentionality in contemporary philosophy causes some difficulty, and that Husserl's intentionality is necessary for the improvement of the philosophy of languge.
