A Study Of The Culture In Taoist Temple

Study of the culture in Taoist temple, as an important aspect of Taoist studies, is significant to understanding, advocating, strengthening Taoism and Taoist temple as well as the coordination of traditional and contemporary cultures. Written with this view, the dissertation includes three parts: preface, text and conclusion.The preface, discussing the possibility and the meaning of the coordination of the culture in Taoist temple and the contemporary tourism, illustrates the value of this study. Then, through defining Taoist temple and the culture in Taoist temple, it outlines an extent for this study.The text has five chapters:Chapter 1: the History of the Taoist temple. In this chapter, the sacred character of Taoist temple and its elements of organism, management and economical entity, which make the foundation of the culture in Taoist temple, were mainly discussed through the history of development of the Taoism and Taoist temple. At last, the temple of Louguantai, as the typical case, was discussed.Chapter 2: the belief in Taoist immortal in Taoist temple. As the sacred space where the Taoist makes practice and the believers pray, the belief in Taoist immortal in Taoist temple become absolutely the core part of the culture in Taoist temple. The history of the Taoist immortal's belief and the cult in Taoist temple were mainly discussed. At last, the immortal belief in Taishan mountain was analyzed.Chapter 3: the Taoist. As the main part in Taoist temple, the Taoist was thecreator of the culture. The history of Taoist and the their life in temple were mainly discussed. And the typical case was the temple of Baiyunguan in Beijing.Chapter 4: the arts in Taoist temple. As a structural element of Taoist temple, the arts in temple play a same role as the sacred building, cult and Taoist. The arts of building, fine arts, painting and music were mainly discussed. And their religious meanings were analyzed as well. The typical case was fixed on the arts of Wudang mountain, which is the famous Taoist mountain in China.Chapter 5: the Taoist festival temple fair. As the secular aspect of the culture in Taoist temple, from the perspective of the concept of festival temple fair, which was analyzed at the beginning of the article, the Taoist festival temple fair was characterized in the different dynasty as Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing. The focus was the temple of Dongyuemiao in Beijing.In conclusion, from the perspective of practice on contemporary tourism, the author discussed the possibility and the way of the coordination with the Taoist temple and suggested a way to protect the traditional culture and to develop the contemporary economy as well, which is just what the author want to express in this paper.
