The existing research about the historical plays in the seventeen years, mostly from dual angle of view of politics and artistry, is reflected mainly in the minor works and ended up with negation and criticism, while the study taking these plays as a whole and system is inadequate in domestic and foreign academic field. The present essay, focusing on the collected twenty-five historical plays and from the visual angle of discourse theory, analyzes and elaborates the historical plays in the seventeen years by dividing them into three plates (generation, construction, and value) and consequently comes to the points as follows:First, the historical plays in the seventeen years are a type of "symbolic social behavior" which resulted from the accumulation and the distillation of the "political unconsciousness" following the modern playwrights' failed shift of realistic theme in the beginning of the establishment of China. Second, the plays assume a double meaning to tell the people our national fables in general and at the same time to "diversely" interpret the history in terms of the particular moral. Third, the plays take on typical discourse characteristics in style, structure, characters, and language, namely, show themselves in three different forms of history-based narration, fiction and "fact similarity" with the last running through them. Fourth, the plot-prompted structure of the plays has created an obvious "non-integration" appearance due to the restriction of stubborn thinking orientation, and most of the historical figures in the plays have politically deductive function and code. Fifth, the plays, embodied in Dan Jian Pian by Cao Yu, have produced a unique, modern, ancient and ancientry-modernizing language style which is both historical and up to date. Finally, in the dimension of discourse value, the linguistic narration in the form of historical play reflects as well the playwrights' hidden mentality, desire and particular reflection on life and history. Therefore, the plays in the seventeen years are a complex and unique discourse form and system which grew up in a pan-politicalized writing context. As a historical narration which implicates strong ideology and discourse strategy, the plays bear all kinds of new historical ideas deducted from authoritative discourse. Moreover, these plays, condensing the information gene from which Chinese sociopolitical culture generates over the seventeen years especially from 1958 to 1962, mirror the Chinese people's spiritual ecology and value orientation, and subsequently have become the mirror image of a certain social historical stage. The plays greatly slowed down the pace that dramas tone political tasks and even are completely reduced to the tool of political struggles. The experience and lessons from the plays are highly inspiring to the development of Chinese historical plays and even stage dramas in the new period and the new century.
