Late Qing Era And Lu Xun

Since the 1980s, the Late Imperial China has been a focus for academia, from which Lu Xun has also attracted numerous attentions .Although much has been devoted to the definition of Lu Xun's early life and belief , no integrated approaches of the relations between the ideology of Late Qing Era,and Lu Xun have ever been proposed . However, the complex literary life of Lu Xun owned itself to his modernist and humanist pursuit that originated from but transcended the late Qing Era's thought. Therefore, the retrospection of this phase and its impact on Lu Xun would be the aim to the present dissertation , as much as a profound challenge.As a case study of a transitional age, this dissertation intends to study Lu Xun's ideology, literary activities, taste and his unique inclinations through the review of late Qing Era's historical and cultural background. Therefore, this study focus itself not only on Lu Xun as an individual but also and the influence asserted by its own time. While some detailed and specific researches are conducted on the basis of the overall review of the special and complex history of the Late Qing Era, the study of Lu Xun as an individual is to be implemented by critical analysis and discussion on the shaping of the writer's individual ideology ,cultural taste and his artistic style .There are six chapters in this thesis, which focus on two points.Firstly, the influence from the history, ideology and culture of the late Qing Era on Lu Xun. Such historical period witnessed not only how new and old thoughts were interwoven but also the transformation of a new age with various values, on which cultural collision and conflict and development and transformation concerns. It was in the cultural conflict and comparison that Lu Xun promoted his criticism of the Chinese sprit and his enlightenment idea. Both the modern and traditional values endowed his profound humanist thought and belief.For the second, how Lu Xun's ideological and cultural individuality shaped in the phase effected the general tendency of his later thoughts and activities.
