The dissertation "The Complex of Utopia of British Romanticism" focuses on the problem of utopia, and deeply inquires into the tendency of a spirit which contains a value for social secularization in poetry of British romanticism, and is named as "aesthetic utopia". Aesthetic utopia of British romanticism was emerged in the double influence of the French Revolution and British Industrial Revolution. It carries on the critical spirit and transcending spirit in the tradition of modern utopia. In the meantime, it had also overcome the malpractice of the uninterrupted demand of "realization". The British romanticist had made a sharp conflict in the aesthetic field when the rational civilization of Capitalism was just formed. With the aesthetic circumstance of individualization, it keeps the essence of human feeling from beginning to end, and safeguards the ultimate human value, and with a distinctive aesthetic stand and interests, they provide a new pursuit of value for illusion of rational utopia. This dissertation contains five chapters. Chapter 1 "The introduction: From Utopia to Romanticism" starts with the problem of utopia, studies the inner transformation from modern utopia to British Romanticism. From this on, we preliminary differentiate the meaning of aesthetic utopia, and introduce the main content about this dissertation. Chapter 2 "Organic Theory: Theoretic Establishment About Aesthetic Utopia" studies the contention about poetry and science among the British romanticist, inquires into the sharp opposites between poetry and scientific reason in the time of British modernization. In this opposites , The British Romanist has established aesthetic theory with the centric of organic theory instead of mechanical theory. Chapter 3 "Nature: The Road to Human Return" is based on their specific poetic creation, talks about their aesthetic recreation facing the crime of actual politics. That is moving towards nature. Moving towards nature is beyond our comprehension of escaping from reality, but comprehension to the natural humanity. Chapter 4 "Experience: The Religion From Soul" primarily inspects the further human experience after British Romanticism moving towards nature. This experience not only makes them aware the being of subject in nature, but also realizes the being of God in nature. Then, they recall God from Foramina to personal soul, and have finished the modern reformation of traditional religion. Chapter 5 " Betray and Transcending: Return to Eternal Greece" is based on the more distant tradition of Greece, looks for the world "beauty and freedom" with eternal charm, and finds a more distant human basis for British secularization. Finally, we sum up their aesthetic stand and interests containing the complex of aesthetic utopia with a strong humanistic colour, and further points out that this aesthetic activity in the art field of being called aesthetic utopia is because they have made a aesthetic recreation facing the darkness of realistic politics. They are a aesthetic activity of arousing revolution and activity by themselves. The British Romanist do realize the aim of social reformation by the revolution of the aesthetic circumstance. Actually, their aesthetic activity makes them a first call of critique of aesthetic modernity to capitalism.
