Being introduced into China in early 1980s, Bakhtin's Theory triggered a upsurge of its study and usage. Polyphony novel theory firstly became the emphasis of research. It was soon accepted and became the academic weapons in Chinese criticism field.In 1990s, the studies on Bakhtin in China spread. Chinese academia's research involved all his important academic ideas. The representational categories such as dialogue, camivalisation, translinguistic idea and speech theory are all be discussed and formed the hotspots. Studies on Bakhtin's poetics of chronotope are also getting on. Researchers on Bakhtin are not only litterateurs but also linguists. With the progress of its holistic study, methodology of Bakhtin's theory was also being discussed.In the new century, studies on Bakhtin get deeper. The deep-seated propositions of Dialogue Theory such as mini-dialogue and potential dialogue are being emphasized in analysis. Camivalisation Research is still the hotspot and new achievements appear. Aesthetic feature and multi-layers of connotations implicated in camivalisation deepen people's understanding on camivalisation theory. His idea of Exteriority, his concept of The Other, and the Novel Benre Theory all get attention and studies.Bakhtin's theory influenced contemporary Chinese literary and art criticism deeply and widely. Discourse, polyphony, carnival etc, these nomenclatures of Bakhtin have already filtered into contemporary Chinese literature words. It affected Chinese litterateurs' studying and thinking methods. Qian Zhongwen use the core of Bakhtin's Dialogue Theory to think the construction of theories of literature and art. He sparkplugs the new "literature theory of communication and dialogue". This kind of usage itself embodied Chinese researchers' attitude of "discourse" to foreign theory resources.The usage of Bakhtin's theory in literary criticism brought new angle of view on literary criticism and study methods, expanded its space, and also got new achievements. The nomenclatures of Bakhtin's theory achieve life force in contemporary Chinese literary criticism. Yan Jiayan, Zheng Jiajian and Wang Dewei's exercises of Bakhtin's theory show their respective features, which worth our considering and weighing carefully.Bakhtin's theory has been used in wide fields in Chinese culture criticism; the most important ones are mass culture study, folk culture study and the analyses on phenomena of social culture transformation.
