Robert Schumann(1810-1856)is one of the representatives of German romantic composers in the 19th century. In his life,he published dozens of music comments, which are extremely personal,in addition to creating a great number of excellent music works.Schumann indirectly expressed his artistic conception and music aesthetics through his writing of music comments.Different from others,Schuman adopted the form in multi-tone dialogue, which has a very strong imitation trace of novel writing. In this way, this feature is the same as the complex novel theory of the Russian philosopher Bakhtin. It can be seen that the music comments of Schumann has the general character of the complex novel mentioned by Bakhtin. This paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the dialogue thought of Bakhtin, the theory of the polyphonic novel of Bakhtin, the background and transcendence of Bakhtin’s dialogue theory. The second chapter analyzes the aesthetics of music and critical principles of Schumann, and tries to explore the content and characteristics of his aesthetic thoughts from three aspects:the overall artistic conception, the artistic thinking of the complex, and the artistic realm of Carnival. The third chapter takes the dialogue theory of Bakhtin as a starting point, analyzes the music comments of Schumann, examines its "conversational"characteristics at the micro level, and discusses the unity of the content and form of the aesthetics of music at the macro level.Based on the dialogue theory of Bakhtin, this paper did a textual analysis and interpretation of Schumann’s music comments, thus revealing the aesthetics of music of Schumann, and exploring the value of its music comment writing skills and ideas.
