Study On Chen Zilong's New Poetic Style

Chen Zilong was a famous litterateur, scholar and statesman in the final phase of Ming dynasty. He formed his particular poetic style by his romantic and affectionate personality and through his impassioned and miserable circumstances, which also reflected the personal abundance in the complicated cultural background of the last stage of Ming dynasty. But the researches of Chen Zilong's poetic style are less than the ones of his Ci-versers. And most of them mostly focus on the era characteristics and realistic significance, whereas lack in the meticulous analysis and sum-up of the art features of poet creation. The purpose of this dissertation is to study Chen Zilong's new poetic style based on his thoughts and personality. His poems reflected the integration of talent, passion and vigor that few of poets in the same period could possess.The dissertation is mainly divided into three parts. The history and culture connotation of the south of the lower reaches of the river, especially Sungkiang and its around area at the last stage of Ming dynasty, is unscrambled in the first part. Furthermore his extraction, character, activity and status in the Fu league are introduced and analyzed.Chen Zilong's thought and personality are analyzed and the origin of his thoughts is excavated together with the academic background in the second part. Firstly, the academic thoughts of the last stage of Ming dynasty undergo a conversion from the heart school of Wang Yangming to the school of Zhu Zi. The main keynote of his thought was to administer the society and retrieve the current political situation, but he also absorbed the school of emperor and was affected by the current individual thought. It need be especially pointed out that his concept of 'times' was greatly intensive, and ran through his politics, military thought, poem theory and action.Secondly, the dominant trend of his culture personality is discussed. His personal spirit reflects the confliction between 'reclusion' and 'official' and the integration of 'the variation of era' and 'the insistence of custom', which is correlative with the thought and culture of the final phase of Ming dynasty and also presents his own characteristics.The art features of Chen Zilong's poem are analyzed and appraised, and the complicated factors that his poetic style was formed are further discovered. The characteristics of Chen Zilong's new poetic style is to integrate some things that seem inconsistent, which is built on the basis of the complicated culture mechanism of the last stage of Ming dynasty. Firstly, it integrates the heroism with the sentiment and makes them get along well. Secondly, Chen Zilong's poems embody not only the influence of the region culture of Sungkiang but also the integration with the tradition of Six Dynasty, and form a romantic and bright life sentiment.
