On The Historical Ideas Of East Asian Economy-spirit

The dissertation makes a historical study on the modernization of Asian spirit by academic research. Based on Weberian theory, it discusses the rational core and dilemma of the modernization of Asian spirit, giving a further exploration to the construction of the modernization theory of Asian spirit.The dissertation consists of three parts.The first part, with two chapters, gives an analysis of Weberian theory and its development. With the analysis of Weberian theory and Weberian proposition, the first chapter claims that as the cornerstone of the study on spiritual modernization, Weber's The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism provides an analysis to the relationship between the Chinese religion and capitalism obviously based on the Western-centralism. The second chapter discusses Bellah's theory, an extension theory based on Weberian theory. Bellah accomplishes a theoretical breakthrough to Weberian proposition through the study on modern Japanese ethos. In fact, Bellah's study on Japanese Tokugawa Religion is a revision and development to Weberian theory with an important significance on enlightening the study on modernization of Asian spirit.The second part makes an academic research to the modernization theory of Asian spirit. Based on the relationship between various schools of modernization study of Asian spirit and Weberian theory, the dissertation gives an analysis in terms of three different schools such as applicable, critical and introspective ones. It consists of three chapters, of which, the first chapter is the study on the "applicable school" with scholars such as Jin Yaoji, Michio Morishima, Shichihei Yamamoto, Jin Rikun as representatives, with the second chapter the study on the "critical school" with scholars such as Yu Yingshi, Du Xuncheng as representatives, and the third chapter the study on the "introspective school" with scholars such as Du Weiming, Huang Junjie, Feng Tianyu as representatives. Based on the rationality and limits of the modernization study of Asian spirit resulted from the analysis of the three above-mentioned schools, the dissertation will achieve the purpose of seeking out the core of the construction of economic-spiritual ideas as well as the way to realize it.The third part gives clearly an exploration of the way to reconstruct the modernization theory of Asian spirit. With three chapters, the first one discusses the way to get rid of the dilemma of Weberian proposition, and the second one the possibility of modernization of Asian zone, along with the third one the conceiving by the writer on the reconstruction of the historical ideas of Asian economy-spirit.
