Porcelain is one of the greatest Chinese inventions. Mature porcelain appeared at the middle or later stages of East Han Dynasty and about 400 years later, white porcelain was made in Northern China and celadon in Southern China during the Sui and Tang Dynasties. Bluish white porcelain was a new kind of porcelain made during the Five Dynasties, which was produced in Jingdezhen and considered as the most typical according to traditional view. Furthermore, the character, development and postition of Fanchang kiln in the Chinese pottery history were discussed according to the records from ancient literatures. This article can be divided into three parts.
