Journal of Literature and Art, one of the ideological voices of CPC, have directly or indirectly influenced the generation and development of contemporary literature of China with its irreplaceable position and authority. The present thesis, from the editorial perspective, makes a careful study of Journal of Literature and Art to examine how the governmental ideology devises and controls the new pattern of literature via this ideological carrier and to inspect the responses of the media to the process of systemization, through the tidying up of the formation process of the production, spreading and consumption mechanism.The overall structure of the thesis is composed of four pats:1. The EditorsThe main contents of this part include: 1) the change of the editorial board. The early years of New China witnessed five terms of the editorial board of the journal, with the longest term lasting for over two years and the shortest for only several months. In the frequent changes of the boarders Hu Feng's resignation, Ding Ling's withdrawal, Feng Xuefeng's failure and Xiao Qian's expellance are apparently attributed to different reasons but the real cause is that the editorial practice deviated from the main-stream ideology. 2) The issue of editor'notes. The editor of the journal strengthened the public opinion or diluted it to tactfully express its real editorial intention by deliberately selecting and controlling the frequency and time of the issue of editor's notes. This implicit way of expression created a small gap between the discourse of medium and that of the political power, and thus to leave a trace of trying to understand literature in terms of literary thinking. But because of the similarity of the two in nature a harmonious gesture was assumed in spite of slight deviation. 3) Kang Di in the Hu Feng Incident. As an editorial boarder of Journal of Literature and Art Kang Di witnessed the whole process of the Hu Feng Incident.
