Research On The Book Of Han's Literature

The Book of Han(written by Bn Gu) is another monumental work both of history and literature after Sima Qian's Records of the Historian in ancient China. But now, studies in the Book of Han's literature are far inferior to the studies of Records of the Historian. In view of that, this thesis is intended to research literary features of the Book of Han. Furthermore, this research attempt to a comprehensive and thoroughgoing study on the Book of Han. It contained the introduction and five chapters(inclouding sixteen sections), about 200 000 words.The introduction briefs the status, significance and method of this research, then emphatically review the history of literary studies on the Book of Han. The studies in the Book of Han in ancient times are handed down from generation to generation, while it is mostly fragmentary reviews and impressions. Since modern age, relative the booming of literary research on Records of the Historian, literary research on the Book of Han suffers the enormous cold reception. Obviously it is unjust. Up to now, there did not have one monograph about the Book of Han.The first chapter investigate the Book of Han from the macro-culture and macro-literature. Records of the Historian is born in the Western Han Dynasty politics and the academic trend universal crucial time, while the Book of Han is produced in the Eastern Han Dynasty after the Confucianism and Chenwei has shrouded in the society. The two historian books presents one aspect of the Western Han and Eastern Han Dynasties. The chapter also briefs on Ban Gu's family history, his life and his creations. Because of the spirit of Ban Gu's times and his family's tradition of learning, there have more conscious of history, and a distinct ideology of Confucianism in the Book of Han. From the angle of literature, it is obviously that Records of the Historian couldn't be repeated. And the literary value of the Book of Han is its new ideas embodied the features of its times.
