Currently when considerable attention is being given to positive psychology, subjective well-being becomes an active research topic of psychology. Subjective well-being consists of cognitive and affective components. Cognitive well-being refers to the life satisfaction, and affective well-being contains positive affect and negative affect, the two independent dimensions. It has been demonstrated that personality is the most stable and powerful indicator that influences affective well-being. And extraversion and neuroticism are often considered the two personality traits most relevant to the study of well-being. But how personality influences affective well-being is still in controversy. What's more, most conclusions came from studies in the west. Whether they are culturally universal is still to be examined. This research explored the mechanism of extraversion and neuroticism's effect on affective well-being, and put forward an integrative model of personality effect on affective well-being. This research includes nine chapters.Chapter 1, basic concepts and theories in the field of affective well-being research were introduced.Chapter 2, theories and empirical studies on the relations between personality and affective well-being were reviewed.Chapter 3, the main frame of this research was brought forward, which comprised the purpose, the content, and the significance of the research as well.Chapter 4, based on the two dimensional structure model of positive and negative affect, the PANAS was revised. A full validity and reliability investigation showed the good psychometric qualities of the revised scale.Chapter 5, the relationship model of extraversion, neuroticism and affective well-being was investigated. After controlling the measurement errors with Structural Equation Modeling, extraversion and neuroticism were found to be correlated with positive affect and negative affect respectively.
