Modern Chinese Psychology Adjective Semantic Network Research

Psychological adjective is a relatively closed set in semantics and grammar. In semantics, it is based on men's cognition and mental activity in their everyday perception. In grammar, this set is based on the definition and classification of Chinese adjectives, which is set up by Zhu Dexi.In this study, the first step is settling the criteria for the needed adjectives, in accordance with which an exhaustive search is carried out in related dictionaries. At last, the subjects are limited to 449 basic psychological adjectives. Second, the research establishes the foundation, principles and means of describing the semantic features, offers a detailed introduction to the signals, patterns and format of analyzing the semantic feature of psychological adjectives. The research then sets up five elements of the semantic feature for psychological adjectives, namely, semantic class, semantic orientation, semantic primitive, original quantity feature, and social meaning. Furthermore, according to the dictionary definition and cognitive judgment, the paradigmatic semantic feature is extracted and the semantic identity (ID) of each psychological adjective is established, and a Basic Element Chart of Semantic Analysis' Meta-Language of Psychological Adjectives is drawn. On the basis of the above achievements, a series of explorations in-depth are carried out, which cover summing up the laws of the semantic hierarchy layout of psychological adjectives, making a detailed classification and delineation of their semantic distribution, creating a paradigmatic semantic network of psychological adjectives, distinguishing the core and its surrounding elements of psychological adjectives, drawing an analog axis of the asymmetrical distribution of semantic orientation of psychological adjectives, and summarizing the semantic distribution feature of psychological adjectives, which is also verified in psychological terms.In order to explore the possible selective relationship between the semantic feature description and the syntax distribution of those psychological adjectives, this study, based on the large-scale corpus, extracts 28260 valid sample sentences, and then analyzes in details whether there is a mark for each psychological adjective serving as a syntax part in each sample. Furthermore, it compiles respectively the statistics of such different scopes as psychological adjectives, semantic orientation of psychological adjectives, semantic category of psychological adjectives, and consequently, describes in details the syntax distribution of psychological adjectives and their selective relationships with such paradigmatic semantic features as semantic orientation and semantic category.
