A Study On Semantic Primitive Structures Of The Anger-Type Psychological Adjectives In Modern Chinese

With the advent of the information age,language processing has become the core of knowledge processing,and the core of language processing is semantic understanding.The rapid development of computational linguistics has put forward higher requirements for accurate semantic understanding,especially for machines to understand natural language,the first thing human beings have to do is to figure out the internal structure of the word meanings.As the foundation of the semantic understanding of natural language,the research on the micro-structure of word meanings shows a trend of more detailed development,which focuses on the micro-structure of word meanings of different parts of speech and its sub-categories.Psychological adjectives describe the complex psychological activities and its external expressions of human beings with certain semantic ambiguity.Therefore,it is difficult yet significant to study the meanings of psychological adjectives.Given the limited space,this study takes the anger-type psychological adjectives(ATPA)in modern Chinese as the research object and studies its semantic structures under the guidance of semantic primitive theory with following steps.Firstly,collect as completely as possible all the psychological adjectives in modern Chinese according to the interpretations from the chosen dictionaries and then establish the lexical field of psychological adjectives in modern Chinese.Secondly,for accurate analysis of the semantic primitives of psychological adjectives in modern Chinese,divide the psychological adjectives in the above lexical field into different sub-categories with the help of the research result of emotions and feelings in psychology.Thirdly,taking the anger-type psychological adjectives in modern Chinese as an example,describe its semantic features and the semantic primitive structural attributes of these words.Fourthly,conduct the semantic analysis and extract the semantic primitives for each minimum semantic groups in the anger-type of psychological adjectives.At last,build a semantic primitive set of the anger-type psychological adjectives in modern Chinese after verifying and optimizing the semantic primitives with the help of the semantic analysis table.This thesis analyzes the semantic primitive structures of the anger-type psychological adjectives in modern Chinese from different attributes so as to clarify the similarities and differences of the meanings of all the anger-type psychological adjectives,which to some extent can solve the problems of circular or identical definitions of some psychological adjectives in dictionaries.As an important part of natural language processing,the semantic primitive study of the anger-type psychological adjectives in modern Chinese can provide support for machines in language understanding and automatic language production therefore improves the speed and accuracy of language processing.In addition,the classifications of psychological adjectives in modern Chinese and the semantic analysis and the semantic primitive extractions of the anger-type psychological adjectives can provide reference for the study of the semantic primitive of other sub-categories of adjectives as well as that of other word classes.
