| In this article the author analyzes the Manzu people's image from an "outsider" perspective by selecting the representative texts and folklores in various periods of Korea Dynasty and the writers or narrators of those texts or folklore are considered "outsiders". From these analyses the author finds the reason that why two different cultures can coexist despite of some collisions, and why they can gradually begin to have dialogue and mutual understanding after a period of isolation and hostility. Through analyzing the process of the Korean acceptance of Manzu people's image, the author proves that there is possibility that one culture can identify and understand another one.If we apply the image science concepts of "ideology" and "Eutopia" to interpret Manzu people's image, it can be regarded as "ideology" before the middle of the 18th century and after the middle of the 18th century it can be regarded as "Eutopia". The reason that Korean changed their attitudes towards Manzu people depends on their attitudes towards the Chinese traditional Confucian culture and some other beliefs such as "Chinese is superior and foreigners are inferior", which is one of the typical reflections of Chinese traditional culture.China and Korea are neighboring countries and they are closely connected with each other since the ancient time in the field of politics, economy, culture and so on. Especially in the field of culture, the Korea Peninsular has been deeply influenced by Chinese traditional Confucian culture and the belief of "Chinese is superior and foreigners are inferior".Strictly constrained by the traditional beliefs such as "Chinese is superior and foreigners are inferior" and "Righteousness of The Spring and Autumn Annals", Korean pictured the Manzu people and Nuzhen people in a "monsterization" way before the 17th century. |
