The 20^th century is a century which is full of great changes. When we retrospect to this period, especially, the 20^th century Chinese novels, we must pay attention to the important reality that "complaining women" as an archetype always appears in the 20th century Chinese novels. Being a literary image in classical Chinese literature, "complaining women" continue to appear in the 20^th century Chinese novels and has gotten new characteristics. When we analyze the different characteristics of complaining women and read different stories of complaining women, we can find the complexity of different historical phases and historical meaning, and we can understand the author's expression of life in different times, and we can also understand the people's morality, ethics and cultural pursuit and the reality and women's life at that time.Through analyzing, we can discover that "complaining women" as an important archetype in Chinese classical literature has been studied for a long time by scholars, but the complaining women as an important archetype in the 20th century Chinese novels is almost neglected. Papers are only limited to analyze single character or several complaining women, but it is short of thorough study as an archetype. Thus this thesis focuses on "complaining women archetype" in 20^th century Chinese novels. Because the 20^th century Chinese novels are very numerous, we can't read them completely. So we emphasize on some masterpieces in the literary history, and regard them as examples. My Whole thesis consists of Introduction and five chapters.In Introduction, I explain conception of the complaining women and briefly analyze the archetype in the classical poems in order to find the historical trace of the complaining women archetype. Considering the complaining women archetype has existed for a long time and gotten new characteristics, in Introduction I have roughly explained the reasons of this archetype why it continues and its changes in the 20th century Chinese literature. Thus I lay a foundation for the next chapters.Chapter One: Analysis of Complaining women during the 30 Years Chinese Literature before LiberationAs a preface of my thesis, I have chosen this period to be a limit, which is not a strict boundary in literary history.
