Wang Anyi Creation

Wang Anyi is an outstanding writer in modern Chinese literary circles. Many researcheres have made lots of explanations and criticism about her novels in the past 30 years. However, because of her creations'prolificacy and changeability, the majority of the researches are mainly about a certain novel, novels in one period or novels sharing certain similarities. There is no comprehensive study on her creation'whole process and entirety. Also, many researches have the tendency of seeking for newness and difference, and put more emphasis on reasoning rather than on perceptual recognition, which derogate the value and significance of literary study. Based on Wang Anyi's realistic creations during the past several years, according to my own feeling and experience in reading, using some theories closely relative to her novel creations, this thesis aims not only to give an overall and comprehensive arrangement, generalization, explanation and criticism of her years of creation in four aspects: novels'conception, novels'theme and subject, novels'language characteristics and novels'aesthetic style, but also explore the nuclear creative philosophy that is entailed in her novels, that is, the moderate creative philosophy.During her many years of novel creation process, Wang Anyi forms her unique and mature conception about novel gradually. She has gained rather mature understanding and ideas about the novel creation, such as the relationship between novel creation and real life, the relationship between novel creations and own experience, the novel's authenticity and fabrication, and the novel's form and content. In her opinion, the creation of novel is not only based on reality but also surpasses it. The creation of novel means building a mental and spiritual world using reality both as basis and as material. Also, the creation of novel is based on the author's own experience and surpasses it. It is a means of self-presentation using the author's own experience medium and an expression of the human entirety's general experience. The creation of novel should combine authenticity and fabrication together, and the fabrication should be reality-based, logical and reasonable. The form and content of novel art are closely related and inseparable. They two are integrated. The content of a novel includes a certain form that fits it. Also, the form and content of the novel are both unique and sole. The above-mentioned novel concepts of Wang Anyi have showed a close relationship with literary tradition of modern literature. Also, they bring with themselves a moderate philosophical meaning.The novel achievements of Wang Anyi have extremely profound theme and subject. This thesis gives a brief summarization of them and divides them into three aspects: the tireless searching for survival significance; the careful observation of the human predicament; and the deep realization of women's lives. During the process of her novel creation, together with characters in her novels, Wang Anyi herself is keeping searching for the value and significance of human life. As a result, she always falls into a perplexed and lost predicament. At the same time, positively, she manages to fight against and eliminate her own loss and nihility through means of building belief and establishing relationship. Finally, she finds a practical civilian spirit lying between the noble and the low, which is fit for both herself and others.
