The present paper aims to approach the historical design experience in light of thinking in terms of images in ancient Chinese ware-making activity, working on 4 topics: thinking in terms of images of universality and nationality, that of means and criterion, and that of principle and objective. The conclusion falls into 2 quite distinct parts: In the 1st part I am concerned to the thinking in terms of images of the rule of"comparability", which shows 4 characteristics historically: imagine, analogies, generalize, and prefigure. In the 2nd part ,I deal with the question of ware-making's means which could be historically generalized as"simulation"and"transformation". The 3 characteristics are subdivided to analyze and explain Ware-making's means. The first is"simulation"and"symbolization", it can be accounted for as an out-standing feature in Chinese ware-making tradition. The second is"Shen-Qu-Mian-Shi", seriously looking into nature of material, means that develop new ware-making from changing ware-made. The third is graphics-mode of Chinese ware-making tradition. The typical one is traditional Chinese building industry. The wholeness of three elements, images, work-divided and standardization, consists of what the historical graphics-mode of traditional Chinese building industry lies in.
