The Limitation Of The Criticism Of Chinese Contemporary Popular Literature From Aesthetics' View

Chinese popular literature has the largest readership, but it is difficult for us to define it as a refined art and even more difficult to draw critics' attention. At the turn of centuries, literature presents itself the tendency of popularity, and popular literature is gradually taken into account by the critics. Compared with the criticism of pure literature, the criticism of popular literature is still on its rudimental stage of development without a systemic and right theory, without a criterion of criticism and a measure of value suitable to the character of popular literature. Now, the criticism of popular literature is almost from the perspective of thought, morality and culture. They don't regard popular literature as literature itself, let alone paying attention to the character of popular literature. Therefore, the thesis focuses on the limitation of the criticism of popular literature from the aesthetics' view, trying to discuss the peculiarity about popular literature as an opposite style to pure literature, which, in order to form a healthy popular literature criticism, makes popular literature developed well under the good atmosphere of academic criticism.The eight chapters in this thesis are divided into three parts. The first part is an introduction. Firstly, making a general introduction of the present research about the subject and the value of this thesis; Secondly, tracing the evolvement of elegance and vulgarity and looking for the limitation of conception of elegance and vulgarity from the approach of the acceptation; Thirdly, giving the popular literature a proper position by delimiting the conception and researching the value of existence. The second part is the main part, surveying the limitation of the contemporary popular literature criticism from the aesthetics' view, analyzing the main limitation which exists in present popular literature criticism such as an outdated view, flinty and arrogant attitude, an unique visual angle and an incomprehensive criterion etc. The last part is the conclusion, trying to make an attempt to establish a standard about the new view, the visual angle and the criterion of the criticism about the contemporary popular literature on the basis of limited analysis.
