Turn Discourse Markers

Discourse markers are widely used in our daily life,they play an important role in utterance production and utterance interpretation ,the proper use and interpretation of them consist of a considerable part of pragmatic or communicative competence, thus this paper bears both theoretic and practical significance. This thesis discusses the discourse markers from the angle of position,condition,function and frequency, in order to discuss it in detail ,we research it from turn-opening,turn-holding and turn-yielding.The present dissertation consists of six chapters:Chapter one, the preface. With a general survey of discourse markers, we introduce the situation of the research on discourse marker in modern Chinese in brief and account for the instructional theories and study methods of the thesis. When combing out the past research ,we divided it into two angles, first we combing out the past research of discourse markers,then we combing out the past research of turn-taking.Chapter two. In this chapter, we study the discourse marker properties from syntactic proterty, semantics proterty, pragmatics property and make a new define. In order to make a detailed define, we also compare the confusional conception with other syntax conception.In chapter three, we research the function of discourse marker in turn-opening. We devide the turn-opening into two ways:normal turn-opening and un-normal turn-opening. We discuss these two ways from its function ,condition and frequency.Chapter four. Through using a lot of examples, we study the discourse markers from functional approach in turn-holding. We devide it into three types,that is turn-taking unending discourse marker,non-question discourse marker and sonic-pause discourse marker.Chapter five.
