People live in a diversified world, which could be objective and subjective. The question of the reality and objectivity of the world is involved with philosophy, logic and linguistics. Most linguists are greatly concerned with the objective and real aspect of language forms. The paper then deals with the hypothetical sentences. It analyses the semantics and syntax of the Chinese subjunctive category. The paper consists of 8 chapters. The first chapter defines subjunctive category of Chinese and introduces the present studies on this issue. Chapter 2 comes to the hypothetical complex sentences in subjunctive category. It classifies two kinds of hypothetical complex sentences: possible hypothesis and counterfactual hypothesis. Chapter 3, Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 analyses the typical hypothetical sentences introduced by conjunctions such as "ruguo" and "jishi", and other sentences marked by particular adverbs and certain sentence patterns. Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 deal with the important elements in expressing hypothetical sentences: time and negation. The last chapter compares Chinese hypothetical sentences with English subjunctive conditionals. The study of hypothetical sentences is crucial to our understanding of language. It is equally crucial to application. However it remains an open area for profound research into the connection between form and meaning.
