This dissertation deals with Steinberg's intelligence theories and it's applications in education and psychometrics. In virtue of methods combined with theoretical research and empirical research, meta-analysis about documents and theoretical review, this thesis discusses systemic Sternberg's intelligence theories during different phases, evaluates these theories of characteristic, value and limitation, clarify their internal logic, purposes describing thirty years' developmental track and contribute of Sternberg's intelligence theories.Sternberg addresses intelligence research in Yale university for many years. He is furious opponent to traditional intelligence theories, deeming it is substantially a kind of narrow, dull, static, pure intelligence viewpoint, which simply understand the complicated nuture of intelligence. What is intelligence ? How to research it ? How to measure it ? Sternberg have pondered upon these meta-theoritical questiones for many years, and put forward that the nature of intelligence is conventional, contextual, developing, and researchers should construct intelligence theory based on system metaphor. He has many academic interests and theoritical contribute, including triarchic theory of intelligence, theory of successful intelligence, creative investment theory, balance theory of wisdom, etc. Based on abroad creative thinking, these theories integrate component, context and experiential world of intelligence, combine with implicit theoritial approach and explicit theoritical approach, extend intelligence's connotation and advance interpretative efficacity for real world via the way of dialectic synthesis.Sternberg 's academic ideality is to unify science and practice, improve psychology in the public interest and it's educational value. According to these principles, he applies his intelligence theories into educational reform and the field of intelligence test, developed osmotic curriculum of "teaching for successful intelligence" and "teaching for wisdom", which are characteristic of emphasizing multi-ablities and educational equity, cultivating students' multi-viewpoints and dialogue thinking. Sternberg developed triarchic ability test and rainbow project test towards new direction of intelligence test, which substantially enhance interpretative force of test and reduce intelligence difference among different groups. These new tests have important contribute to educational assessment and entrance examination.
