Sadomasochism Enjoyment As Viewed From Literature

Sadomasochism enjoyment has so far been treated as an abnormal phenomenon.Thus, people tend to take a subjective and crude attitude towards it, which greatly hindersfurther objective study into this problem. For long, sadomasochism enjoyment has beendemonized: it was either enveiled or excluded, leading to few research achievements inthis aspect. Meanwhile, literatures containing sadomasochism enjoyment were demonizedaccordingly, and denounced to be abnormal and erotic.However, sadomasochism enjoyment, in fact, came into being due to various factors, in psychology, physiology, aesthetics, religion and politics, with a profound, culturalfoundation. That is to say, sadomasochism enjoyment is a complicated culturalphenomenon. With faster social development, more and more plights appear in people'sliving, making sadomasochism enjoyment more and more inescapable. Nowadays, as theworld becomes more and more civilized and human beings have more profoundknowledge of themselves, sadomasochism enjoyment is no longer a forbidden issue inmany developed countries and regions around the world, but attracts, on the contrary, closer attention, making literatures about this issue gradually included in classics.However, in China, sadomasochism enjoyment is always undervalued. Although such asituation has somehow improved in recent 10 years, the issue is still regarded as greatscourages, and few studies were made about it, which are mostly limited to the domainsof psychology or sociology; there were even fewer studies about sadomasochismenjoyment established in literature.The thesis is intended to overcome such drawbacks. It makes literary texts as theobject of study, and integrates theories in psychology, physiology, aesthetics, religion andpolitics to make analysis of texts about sadomasochism enjoyment. All these theorieshave been widely accepted and taken for granted. And when viewing sadomasochismenjoyment from these aspects, we found that it's not demon at all: it could definitely beunderstood. It was even found out that in some concepts we have been accustomed to, factors of sadomasochism enjoyment were embodied. Therefore, the concept of sadismtreatment is part of the cultural concepts of us human beings, and widely scattered in different cultures. And the literature, as a mirror of people's real life, keenly and vividlydisclosed such a concept, and revealed some research- and study-worthy problems. Butsurely, I fully understand that scenes in literatures could never bc equal to the actual life, and cultural interpretations somehow contribute to hiding of bodies.
