The ritual and music culture is the organic constituent of Chinese traditionalculture. It has important influence to continue and develop Chinese civilization. In thetraditional cultural pattern of ritual and music, ritual and music often present theharmonious consistent appearance, but behind this kind of representation of ritual andharmonious music, there are tremendous contradiction between the two aspects.Therefore, this dissertation thoroughly analyzes the contradictory between rite andmusic in Chinese traditional culture of ritual and music. Furthermore, people toappreciate music experience and cognition taking "ritual and music tension" as cutsinto the spot and taking the Spring and Autumn Period Warring States ritual and musicrelations as a center.From the social function attribute aspect, the despotic time "ritual" is for thepurpose of maintaining the ancestor legal system of blood relationship as thefoundation rank and order as well as guaranteeing long-term peace and goodgovernment. "Ritual" not only took one kind of universal behavior criterion standardwhich people conform the words and deeds, seep to the innermost soul,fundamentally restrains individual internal feelings, thought and emotion, brings theindividual consciousness into the community standard and causes the individual lifevalue to be neglected in the community emotion which is take the rank and order asthe core, neatly delimits one.In comparison, music is one kind of art form which origins to the innermostfeelings moreover the human sentiment cannot avoid it. It emphasized the main formof body independence and the freely unfold individual motion, and that it has topursue individuality independence and find the life essence characteristic. During theCentralization despotic time, there are a pair of irreconcilable contradiction between"ritual" and "music" immobilization and disassimilation as well as music essencewhich pursues its own independence, individuality freedom and prominent individuallife consciousness. This kind of intrinsic tension between ritual and music constituteto the basic power for music art development.Cultural pattern of ritual and music take the rank as a core in Western ZhouDynasty. Music gradually separated from the religious condition before which theritual and the music coexist. It is clear that ritual and music become the tool of ritualdependency and maintain kingship. To Spring and Autumn Period "propriety disintegration", under spirit of the age impel, the music artistic characteristic isobvious day by day, which this kind of characteristic contains itself moreover theconsistent with the human nature essence. What's more, it forms the incisiveopposition with the ritual that it maintains the hierarchical system and constrains theindividuality existence. In Spring and Autumn Period Warring States time, graduallyappears "music does not observe the ritual", composing verses' rise, flouriching anddecline in the social activity. The musician's status came to the reorganization of thesociety, instrumental music art has obtained the prominent achievement, Pre-Qinideologists has also obtained rich music recognition. This is the illustration, which themusic breaks through the ritual fetter to obtain the magnificent development.To be discussed above, humanity initiative and independent spirit has the vitalsignificance to the artistic development. It is the important prerequisite to theprosperous development of music and that pursues the free spirit which symbolizeindividual life determination and independent in music in three aspects as material,text, human. The music essentially has the pursue life independence and the spiritualfree attribute, therefore music art only breaks through all non-artistic factor fetter andcan finally obtain its own liberation. "Ritual and music tension" which originated inPre-Qin music analysis pattern not only was suitable for analyze the development ofmusic art ancient times and other time, it also has the certain theory reference valueto reconsidering Chinese music culture evolution in modern times.
