This paper belongs to the ritual music research areas. The case study of this paper is based on the ritual music that is used during the YuFo festivals and Chaomu Puja ceremony at Great Xiangguo Temple. The author conducts the research from the perspective of ethnomusicology. From2012to2013, the author carried out many field trips to Great Xiangguo Temple and got a lot of first-hand information on Buddhist ritual music. During the site visit, the author followed the chanting monks to learn Sanskrit chant, and conducted the recording and notation analysis for the ritual music.This paper starts from the YuFo Festival and Chaomu Puja ceremony music. The author not only analyzes the ontology of ritual music, but also conducted a preliminary exposition on the relationship between ritual music, ritual procedures, and the ritual beliefs. So as to explore how ritual music serves the ritual procedures, and ultimately how it reflects ritual beliefs.
