Using Voice Writing

From the level of daily life, the sound usually plays the role of background element that contributes to attracting our vision attention; from the level of movie appreciation, the so-called"watching movies"and"appreciating films"actually means that the sound has been put into a next important place in the process of ascetic appreciation. Actually, the realistic world could be seen and be heard. The hearing is an activity that contains consciousness and choices. We neglect the sound in our life is that we lack of a tendency to hear with our hearts; we neglect the sound in the movies is that we don't know how to write and how to create with sounds.The sound of movie is not an appendant of vision images, but a sensible material. It is internal and sensitive rather than external and concrete. The movies are an admixture of sound and vision activity, and a combination of seeing and hearing. The famous French film artist Robert Bresson described in his"Notes on Cinematography": the composition of movie is composed by movable images and sounds. It is true that beside the vision composition, there is another way------to compose with sounds. As for a modern director, he should not only observe with his eyes, but also with his ears, to choose, to guide and to create. The sound is a sensitive language that tells the story, describes the environment and depicts the sensibility, which gives the director infinite space to create and express the movie freely. All the elements, such as the sound, voice, music and silence are important elements of a movie. The sound of movie is a relatively independent, free and creative element for expressing. It directly adopts hearing, which contains the features of narrative, expressive and subjective, which transforms an action, an event or a context into a sensitive dummy image by adopting auditory expression, apperception and association, which composes an integrate and continuous seeing and hearing world."To Write With Sound"mainly analyzes how the director applies the sound element in a creative way to tell stories, figure characters, depict scenes and express the theme of the movies. Based on the different features of sounds and by emphasizing the creativity of sounds expression in movies, this thesis reflects on our traditional cultural habit which only emphasizes the vision images rather than the sound images. This thesis tends to take the classical movies as examples to analyze the sounds in them, so as to explore the contemporary film directors'different views on sounds, different ways of composing with sounds. To study the sound creatively and directly can arise the creators'inspiration, boost up their expressive capacity, so that the film creators can re-realize and analyze the sound, and they can hearken to the consciousness, the construction and connotation. The purpose of this is to initiate an achievement of image and sound equalization, to create a totally new perceptive form of hearing and to achieve the accreting and conformity of vision images and auditory images.
