This dissertation focuses on studying of the development of the relations between Tibet and Bhutan from 1616 to 1959, giving a description of the clues of the dynamic interrelation between Tibet and Bhutan in all fields.As for the history of Bhutan, this was for centuries so closely bound up with the religious history of the country that the religious school which became dominant from the 17th century , the 'Brug-pa school of Tibetan Buddhism , gave its name to the country and its inhabitants: in Dzongkha, Bhutan is called 'Brug-yul and the Bhutanese people 'Brukpas.In the first chapter, the dissertation introduces the early history of Bhutan and elaborates the development of Buddhism in Bhutan. Chapter II focuses on that—Bhutan built its unified regime, introduces the procedure of that—Bhutan built up its own constitution and the military system to fight against the authorities of Tibet. Chapter III expounds the establishment of the new suzerain-vassal state relationship between Tibet and Bhutan and analyzes its characteristic . Chapter IV and V, it takes the interference of the British Empire as the clue, analyzes the necessity and tendency of Bhutan's strategic evolution in the diverse regional situation. In chapter VI and VII, the dissertation takes the political change of Bhutan as background and analyzes the affection on Bhutan political condition form its customization in 20th century. Additionally, in 1959 the relationship between Bhutan and Tibet was broke down thoroughly, the dissertation analyzes the procedure in the two chapters. In the last part of this dissertation, it introduces the association in culture and trade between Bhutan and Tibet.
