Language deviance refers to linguistic forms that deviate from linguistic rules and expressions. Narrative language takes up the major part of any fictional language and to express way. The deviance of narrative language holds a very important position in language deviance of contemporary Chinese fictions. What the present thesis focuses on is the deviance of narrative language in contemporary Chinese fictions subsequent to "Linguistic Turn", with the theoretical achievements and features of fictional texts between 1980s and 1990s as the study object, for this is a period manifesting achievements both in theoretical studies and text writing concerning deviance of narrative language in fictions against Linguistic Turn.It is assumed that the study of language deviance in the narrative of fictions emphasizes the philosophical pivot and theoretical needs of the age. The shift of study focus and methodology brought about by "Linguistic Turn" is not evasive. This not only reflects the influence of avant-garde philosophical trend in the study of language of fiction, but also represents the internal logic and artistic requirements of the language in fiction.Based upon previous researches, this thesis interweaves contemporary literary trends and specific social cultural contexts in the macro-scholastic study of "Linguistic Turn". Stressing the interdisciplinary methodologies, the study brings the narrative language of fiction with different study focuses as distinctive features into my research, with the views of general rhetoric as its theoretical sources. It ontologically describes and reviews the theoretical study of fictional narrative and features of fictional texts to systematically transcribe the features, general appearance and evolutionary traces of the narrative language in contemporary Chinese fiction.Based upon a systematic review and analysis of deviance of fictional language against Linguistic Turn, a profound conceptual deviance of fictional narrative and ideas of deviance of narrative language are taken as the perspectives. Readers acquainted with the subject of study will find, by summing up the previous research achievements in views of the deviance of fictional language and in the deviance of fictional language itself, the originality and theoretical development of the author. The thesis draws a conclusion that the prominent conceptual characteristic of language deviance of fiction subsequent to "Linguistic Turn" is the shift from the traditional view of "language is form" to the pluralistic views such as "language is content", "language is style" and "language is culture". The narrative language of fiction shifts from passionate narrative to impassionate narrative, from the traditional quest of verisimilitude, totality to the deconstructed verisimilitude and the meta-narrative, from a single-genre narrative to polyglossia.I hope that this initiative study could be, rhetorically provocative to the study in areas such as literary linguistics and general linguistics, a case study of language of specific period concerning contemporary study of rhetoric and a record of exploration for literature-oriented rhetorical study.
