Based on"Tragic Feature of Chinese TV Series", which is analyzed from the perspectives of Existence, Value and Criticizing, the dissertation elaborates on the existence, value and problems of tragic feature in Chinese TV series. In the dissertation, TV series is not only an image on the screen but an updating and integrating mental process, which is closely related to composers, audience, society and so on.After analyzing the development of western tragedy art and theory, the special meaning of Chinese traditional tragedy culture as well as the special art discipline of TV series, the introduction believes that tragedy is an art that is developing and open rather than stationary and closed, of which the core is to destroy the valuable things in life. Tragic feature, which is connected by aesthetics to tragedy, is bound to be linked mentally to destroying valuable things in life. In the process of analyzing, not only tragedy theories but cultural study is resorted to, because in the dissertation, TV series is a cultural form as well as an art form. To aim at the current tendency towards evil recreation and avoiding nobility, the dissertation is not to exclude comic characteristics recklessly, but to sensor the significance and problems that tragic feature has in Chinese TV series from the perspective of balancing cultural elements. As for the existence of tragic feature in TV series, the dissertation elaborates in terms of general and individual characteristics.In Chapter One, in terms of general characteristics of tragic art, the detailed forms of tragic feature in Chinese TV series are extracted, which consists of the presentation of tragic clash, tragic passion and tragic figures. The advantages of long hours in TV series especially the long ones and flexibility of time and space through montage make the TV series'content richer than common tragic arts. Therefore, generally, the elements of both tragic clash and tragic passion mainly exist in compounding forms, and the number of tragic figures in one TV series is usually more than one.In Chapter Two, in terms of individual characteristics, in combination with the special speaking ways in TV series, it can be seen how certain tragic situations are accurately expressed in TV series'play with the help of visual and audio elements, as well as how the tragic atmosphere is created. In the process, the extraordinary glamour of camera and tremendous influence of visual and audio language can be felt, and the limitless potential in conveying tragic feature of TV series as a comprehensive art can be recognized.In Chapter Three, based on the criticism towards TV series from critics, the dissertation points out that tragic TV series is able to enhance the artistic quality of TV series. Furthermore, based on the fact that TV series is a carrier of explicit art and mighty culture, the dissertation studies the positive meaning and value of TV series'tragic feature from cultural perspective and analyzes its contribution to the stability and health of the cultural environment it belongs to, the TV cultural environment as well as social cultural environment. In addition, the core of arts is people, the contribution of tragic TV series to satisfying people's spiritual needs and realizing people's spiritual freedom is pointed out. In conclusion, in the current Chinese cultural environment, the tragic feature of TV series can better build the spiritual home of TV series, social culture and humans themselves.To be exact, Chapter Four and Chapter Three are not the two aspects of one case, the former in actually a complementation with exclusive significance. That is, to realize its significance and value better, TV series'tragic feature must exclude its own problems, which are shown in the following two aspects. Firstly, Chinese TV series lacks the courage to face the reality and the ability to express the facts so that there is few or zero tragic feature in many areas of real subjects, which is not beneficial to the balance between TV series of real subjects and TV series of certain subjects. Besides, it is not the correct recognition of the harmonious society. Secondly, in emperor play, the emperor constantly appears before the audience as a tragic hero image, and at the same time rejects the emperor with no tragic hero image to be on camera. Such comparison speeds the erosion of democratic ideas by the imperial ideas, which doesn't represent the advancing direction of advanced culture.It can be seen that the analysis from the first perspective presents to us the existing condition of Chinese TV series'tragic feature objectively, providing materials and general background to the latter discourse. The second perspective itself can be perceived as the goal and value of this dissertation, and to realize this point better, the existing problems should be criticized. The discussion of the context of Chinese TV series'tragic feature is the premise of the establishment of the dissertation's viewpoint and the current environmental condition of culture of all levels. The solution to problems needs to adapt to the current situation, and it requires attempts, courage and wisdom.
