The whole thesis is based on the analysis about the "ROC-Japan Peace Treaty" in 1952, trying to discuss the international relations in Far East in early 1950s from a multilateral perspective. After the Second World War, the global situation experienced great change. When the People's Republic of China was founded, she joined the Cold War as ally of the Soviet Union, which symbolized that the Oriental Camp came into being. The confrontation between the U.S. and U.S.S.R was also push forward to Far Eastern area. Since the Chinese Government became a member of the Oriental Camp, China was no longer the buffer, and the stragetic position of Japan and Taiwan were upgraded. In early 1950s, the U.S. not only manipulated the San Fransico peace talks, but also urged the KMT Government to reach peace agreement with Japan, so that Japan and Taiwan were placed into the Occidental Camp. ROC-Japan treaty indicates that the adjustment of the relations of Occidental Camp in Far East was accomplished. With the comparisons of the multilateral documents from the U.S., Japan and Taiwan, the thesis intends to make a historical retrospect upon the negotiaotin process of "ROC-Japan treaty" and underline the background and influence of this treaty. Although "ROC-Japan Peace Treaty" is a bilateral treaty, the negotaiton and signing of the treaty involved all major players such as the U.S., Japan, and China on the scence. U.K. and U.S.S.R are also related. From the reconstruction of the historical details, the study of the traty helps understand the making of a new order in the early days of East Asian Cold War.
