Research On Dialectal Characters Of Wu Dialect In Late Qing Dynasty

There were dialectal-characters in ancient times.We can fred the wording of "northern folk-character" and "southern folk-character" in YiQieJingYinYiwhich was worked by Xuan-ying.FANG Yizhi also proposed the wording of "dialectal-character" in his TongYa.Since 1950s,some scholars began to give a definition of dialectal-character and try to classify it.But these researches are short of totality and system and there is little scholar studying on dialectal-characters in ancient dialect.At present,the research of dialectal-characters is in a weak stage.This is not only the vacancy of the study on Wu dialect in Ming and Qing dynasty,but also the gap of the research on characters in modern times.HeDian and HaiShangHuaLieZhuan whose characters use common sayings to talk are the representative novels of Wu dialect in late Qing dynasty.They actually reflected the features of the pronunciation and vocabulary and grammar in Wu dialect at that time comparatively,which have an important value in studying on Wu dialect then.In this paper,we regard these two novels of Wu dialect as research center.At the same time, using other Wu Dialectal literatures such as local annals,literary sketches,character books and so on,we explain the dialectal-characters in HeDian and HaiShangHuaLieZhuan and discuss relevant problems.What we do have a significant value in researching on dialectal history,dialectal pronunciation and dialectal vocabulary of Wu dialect.At last,this paper has a special chapter for thought of dialectal-character and its research.On the ground of former studies,we sum up the special features of dialectal-character and advance my own view on classification of dialectal-character.On another occasion,we analyze some problems which dialectal-character exists and try to conclude the cognitive motivation of dialectal-character.And then,we point out the difficulties in studying dialectal-character.
