HaiShangHuaLieZhuan is a courtesan novel with the Wu dialect about thedepiction of the prostitutes who living in the end of the nineteenth century inShanghai,including all kinds of official figures,businessmen and celebrities.Thenovel,to some extent,objectively reflects on the real social outlook about theShanghai Concession Area in late Qing Dynasty.This paper attempts to focus on the author Han Bangqing,the historicalbackground of the novels,and the creative intent of the author,to explores therepercussions and implication of this creative significant Wu dialect novelsproduced in the history of literature.HaiShangHuaLieZhuan takes the form of Wu dialect to record dialoguebetween characters consciously,naturally the novel is filled with plenty of dialectwords.This paper starts from the Wu dialect words in HaiShangHuaLieZhuan,takingit as a research corpus,which inquiring the value in the history of Chinesevocabulary,and simply gives a few more features affixes to reveal the role ofenriched semantic content of the dialect words.Finally, the paper also combines with the Wu dialect words inHaiShangHuaLieZhuan to discuss the cultural implication they embodied,includingderogatory sense of the dialect words,the usage of slangs,proverbs and locutions,and reflected the strong regional characteristics and customs....
