The Discussion On Redology Paradigms In The Background Blending Chinese Culture And Western Culture

At the end of Qing Dynasty, western learning began to spread in east. With great changes in Chinese politics,economy and thoughts, literary criticism came to a transformation period. By the impact of western philosophy and literary criticism, Chinese traditional literary criticism can't meet the need of age. Establishing new criticism was an urgent task. One generation scholars were responsible for establishing Chinese modern academy. The establishment was a complicated systematic project, it didn't come into being in a close system, it was an outcome blending reforming exotic academic thoughts and Chinese traditional academic thoughts. The establishment came into being in Redology too.Redology came into being with a Dream of Red Mansions'coming into being in the middle of 18th century. As a great work including Chinese 5000 years traditional culture, a Dream of Red Mansions has great charm and can be interpreted flexibly. From the middle of 18th century to the end of 19th century, the paradigms of Redology concentrated on Fiction Criticism and Suoying. Researchers paid attention to how the work was created depended on their feeling by Suoying, often stickled in the words and sentences. The commentators hadn't been led by mature theories, so their points were optional, and their conclusions were like reviews to the work. The quality of the criticism depended on the quality of commentators themselves. The Suoying group added history and unofficial history to a Dream of Red Mansions, their ways were like suppositions. They applied preliminary historic facts indiscriminately to plots of a Dream of Red Mansions. Their aims were to reduce the work to history, neglected creating procedure of the work. They didn't understand the nature of the work, deviated from the direction of literature criticism. The two paradigms which inherited traditional academic characters had a leading role in Redology at that time. After Opium War, western philosophy and literary theory spreaded with the ideology of science and democracy in China, Chinese traditional academic paradigms were impacted intensely by western academic paradigms. The redoloy can't develop in the old way ignoring the impact of western thoughts, in the background blending Chinese and western culture, the environment of Redoloy changed greatly, the changes lead to revolution of Redology. Several important paradigms of Redoloy came into being in the background. I analyze the construction,development, gain, loss and influence, dig out theories sources of the paradigms. Several important paradigms are studied and classified depend on their different mothedes, perspectives and time the paradigms impacted Redology intensely.New Redology group led the Redology revolution. Hushi who studied in America found firstly that Dewey's pragmatism was connected with Chinese traditional textology. Pragmatism pays great attention to practice and evidence, as is same to Chinese textology. Hushi published Textual Research on a Dream of Red Mansions, he blended pragmatism and textoloy and led by the latter, added logicality,system,induction and deduction to textology, created the mainest pragmatism New Redology. Hushi make Redology be on a scientific and standardized way .From then on, Suoying was looked as old Redology. New Redology group believed in"assume fearlessly, prove carefully". Hushi proved the writer and writer who continued a Dream of Red Mansions. Hushi made great contribution to editions study, especially in Zhipingben. Hushi put forward"Self-narrative Biography"and influenced many scholars in the later ages. Yu Pingbo and Zhou Ruchang, the later leader of New Redoloy group, made the study precisely in every field on the basis of Hushi's theory. They gain great achievements, but began to be partial, for example , they equated Redology with"Caoxue".New Redology is an interflow of pragmatism and textology, and its significance lies not only to the achievement in the Redology but also to propose science method, and that is important to modern academy, it make modern academy theoretical and systematic. The disadvantages of the paradigm is paying too attention to evidence and looks a Dream of Red Mansions as Cao Xueqin's family story, that leads New Redology to be limited in a little range. Society-politics Criticism Paradigm was mainstream since 1949. The paradigm came from some theories in Maxism and tradition of"Moral Carried by Articles"in China. Mao Zedong agreed with points of Li Xifan and Lanling and led a movement of criticism to Yu Pingbo. Because of Mao Zedong's involvement , Redology became an unprecedented prosperous discipline . The"peasants theory","citizens theory"and"theory of criticism to feudal society"were discussed intensely, researchers'final aims were to show that a Dream of Red Mansions reflected class struggle and politics. In whole, the paradigm made Redology widen, helped understand the great work better. But because left-leaning thought took part in the study, the paradigm became a way to explain Marxism and Mao Zedong's thoughts , it ignored work's literary nature and artistic quality. Literature became an appendage of society and politics, and its academic value decreased.Wang Guowei published comment on a Dream of Red Mansions, he analyzed tragedy value,aesthetic value and ethics value of the work. He discussed the nature of human's existence and human's end result. Wang Guowei chose Schopenhauer's theory because the theory was like to eastern thoughts. The paradigm was a result blending western and eastern thoughts. Wang Guowei tried looking for common factors and ways solving common difficulties, studied the factor of"human"fate,human existing value and spirit world of human in western and eastern. At last the paradigm point out ultimate concern of human. A Dream of Red Mansions was looked as a work which embodied thoughts about fate of universe human lives but history and politics firstly. Wang Guowei's thoughts were advanced, so were there few articles inheriting Wang Guowei's thoughts. Xia Zhiqing and Yu Yingshi pubulished articles similar to Wang Guowei's until the1960-1970s. Researchers in mainland paid attention to axiology criticism paradigm after 1980s. The paradigm is close to the nature of work because of its views of literariness and artistry.The paradigm points to metaphysics and ultimate concern at last. By the perspective, a Dream of Red Mansions not only belongs to China, but also to world. Its value is too high to be found. Redology is not at the end as someone said, it can develop more and more by using new paradigms.
