It is an objective fact in the western art history that there is the existence of primes of western plastic arts,in the study of which, philosophical concepts and methods for the explanation of its essence and laws are indeed a brand new approach to western spiritual and cultural history of development.The characteristics of this research are as follows. Firstly,on the basis of a large amount of materials on the primes of western plastic arts and philosophical study of art history,the standard of locating primes of western plastic arts is set up and the division methods of its history with the primes of plastic arts as the symbols are applied.It is argued that "the prime presence" is a remarkable characteristic in the history of western plastic arts.Secondly,the demonstration of the formation and developmental laws of five primes of plastic arts is based on the four aspects of "social-environmental factors","social-ideological motivation","aesthetic law characteristics" and "philosophical-logical interpretation" and finally reaches the relationship between "god-oriented" and "man-oriented",between "divinity" and "human nature",which obviously complies with the developmental logic of western philosophy.From the angle of social mechanics,the formation and development of the five primes of western plastic arts are closely related to the social environment and social concept at the corresponding time,resulting from and promoted by the social mechanics.By aesthetic laws,under the influence of western philosophy and aesthetics with rationalism as their foundation,there are "rational school" and "aesthetic school" as to the concept of plastic arts.The formation of primes of plastic arts is actually the extreme production or subversion of these two schools in their pursuit of "rational beauty" or "aesthetic beauty".In the nature of philosophy,the primes of plastic arts,as the product of human thought and concept,are important integrants of human spiritual and cultural history.The existence of the primes goes from the core of "man-oriented",through religious will and scientific spirit,to the interplay of "divinity" and "human nature" and the interaction of thenebb and flow.Therefore,the inner regulation of the formation and development of western plastic arts is manifested in the process of human spiritual development---the fascination and deconstruction of "divinity" and the awakening and creation of "human nature".In the various epochs of human development,a certain spirit serves as the primary impetus and promoter in the formation of primes of plastic arts because it corresponds to the requirement of human development or agrees with the culture of that particular place,people or period.In this sense,either of the two spirits has the possibility of pushing the development of plastic arts to an extreme at a certain period.In particular,the presence of artistic primes in the history of western plastic arts is both a circular and a progressive process.The progressiveness is the continuous awakening and creation of the consciousness of "human nature".
