Based on the extensive studies of the induction and summarization of former productions, this dissertation comprehensive utilized some research approaches, such as social history, psychology, aesthetics and so on, taking Korean Pigil as the research object, investigating the conception, genre, motivation of occurrence and development of Korean Pigil, to analyze the topic contents of Pigil overall. And this dissertation combs several aspects of Humor aesthetics; objective by appraises literature achievement and literature history status of Pigil in classical Korean literature history.Pigil is unique significance as a special literary genre in classical Korean literature history. But up to now Pigil has not been viewed as an independent literature style, and the former productions; it is very superficial, unsubstantial, disconnected. The development and evolution of Pigil literature has no unified understanding. Meanwhile, the Pigil that has been collected is more than that has been researched. So it is necessary to extend the research scope of Pigil literature and do systematically and macroscopicly study on it.These achievements have accumulated rich and generous researches which provide the preferable basis of Pigil study. Now we may divide the study of Pigil literature into two aspects: one hand, it emphasizes on datum of works which studies under certain theme; on the other hand, it studies some individual workers and works. The research of Korean basically belongs to this that pay more attention to workers' literature value.For study of Pigil literature, we can use the pattern of ontology research and comprehensive research. The so-called "ontology research" means overall comb and description to stylistic criterion system, the pattern of literature structural way, morphological original and independent development and evolution, mainly including two ways: One is the study of original and occurrence, the other is the study of development and evolution. Now the investigation of Pigil more focuses on ontology research . The so-called "comprehensive research" means that we should make overall investigation to all kinds of outer things and phenomenon in relation to Pigil style, such as theoretical view of Pigil style, the Elegant and Vulgar Cultures and literature, the creation of Pigil and transmission, social historical and cultural ,the investigation of content formation, est. On this basis, the author wants to discuss the relationships between the Pigil and other things, thereby, we may make known the reason and discipline which made the Pigil to arise and develop. Of course it is very important for Pigil to set forth the personality and influence on other literary genre in classical Korean literature history.This dissertation separates Pigil genre from Korean ancient prose and novel as a relatively independent research object. So that we can re-exam and evaluate in order to do research in comprehensive macro-demands.Part two mainly investigates the conceptions and types of the Pigil. Used to called "novel", now it is called notes, miscellanea, jottings, essays and Pigils. This paper bases on the traditional literates opinions of Chinese, Korean and achievements, which is general designated "Pigil". Meanwhile, the author suggests that we can call the novels that were their name in ancient Korean literary as Pigil.The Pigil is different from Chinese genres because it has its special characters. The dissertation divides the types of Pigil gross into poetry talks, speaks and satire. Poetry talks includes Poetics and comments of poetry. Poetry speaks includes unofficial history, information, travel diary, YeTan, MinTan, CaiTan. Satire includes Humor and Joke. The characteristics of the Pigil include the freedom of forms, universality of themes, conciseness of works, the pursuit of intellectuality and interest and aesthetic characteristics of Humor, in which Humor is the most important characteristic of the Pigil literature. The external factors of narrative literature combined with the internal factors of the occurrence and development of Pigil. According to this, the author divides the Pigil literature into 4grades: 13～14 century (generation period), 15～16century (prosperity period), 17～18 century (maturity period) and 19 century (decline period).Part three investigates the creation background of Pigil literature, it includes the reasons of generation and prosperity. Any workers and works can not be dissociated from social environment at that time to create. Departing from this, we could not analyze and grasp the right meanings of works. Meanwhile in part three the paper investigate the history background, culture background, ideological background and the important authors life, family background, the relationship of friends, learning process, policy to Pigil of ruling class. We can know the creation intention of workers through Preface and Postscript.Part four emphatically analyzes content characteristics of Pigil 1 iterature, the author subdivided it into two aspects: the scholar-bure aucrat Pigil and the plebeian Pigil. Though Pigil generated from China, its variation created in Korea and prosper with 600～700 years. The contents are very grand, it concludes the information of scholar-bureaucrat, the joke of plebeian, and the story that possess modern novel character. As scholar-bureaucrat Pigil is really a literary re volution that broke the limit between the environment of scholar-bureaucrat and the life of plebeian. The field of Pigil embodies all kinds of types, but it is an occlusive literary circles showed by Chinese, and thus we can know that period social reality that the orthodox literature could not manifest.Part five investigate the Humor aesthetics of Pigil. We should know the characteristics of aesthetics of Pigil literature, which include comments, humor and expanding of novel field. This dissertation emphasizes on humor. We can know the traditionalism of Korea by Humor in Pigil works. As we all known, the humor originated from England literature, but the humor has been localized in Korean and has been become one of the mainly expression formation in Pigil literature. The humor sublimates to an aesthetic expression formation, in which the orthodox literature could not express the scholar-bureaucrat's inner world and the plebeian's feelings repressed.Part six investigates the literary status of Pigil in classical Korean literature history. The Pigil literature plays a unique transitional role in the long narrative period from oral literature to recorded literature and from spoken literature to novel. It can be said that the Pigil literature has double characteristic of transitional literary form from poetry talks and miscellanea to essay and comment, from spoken literature to novel. The narrative characteristic of the Pigil literature can be shown in the following aspects: The Pigil exists and evolves as mainly expression form with Humor in Korean narrative literary history; it has 600～700 years history that experienced from generation to decline; During the period the Pigil interacted with other literary genres and renewed continuously, so it could reflect each visage of the times; the narrative process of the Pigil played an important role in collection of folk literature; and the narrative feature of Pigil finally naissance the"YeTan"that is one of literary formation.In summary, this dissertation aims at studying of the Pigil literature as transitional literature under the genre of the whole Korean ancient prose and novel circumstances, which was ignored by orthodox literature and looked as unorthodox literature for a long time. By contrast with the Pigil genre and other genres, we can grasp the Pigil's unique stylistic criterion and the pattern morphology of artistic structure. Meanwhile each Korean ancient genre is interacting in the process of diachronic occurrence and simultaneous coexistence, and has inheritance in a vertical comparison study and penetration in a horizontal comparison study.
