The ten years of the cultural revolution was a most dark period in the history of the modern Chinese literature., when the prevalent feudal-fascist cultural dictatorship resulted in the destruction of the cultural development in China. This was a lesson of historical significance we can learn by a study in depth of the literature in the cultural revolution. This paper, guided by historical materialism, attempts to make an analysis of political and social backgrounds, theoretical basis, and the state of development of the mainstream literature in the cultural revolution, based on literary texts and other relevent historical materials. It also provides an analysis of the "underground literature", in contrast to the mainstream literature, in the period of the cutural revolution. And as a cultural product that emerged and developed in a particular historical context, the literature in the cultural revolution has its special discursive structures, some of which will be examined in the last part of the paper.
