In contemporary economy, residents, enterprises and governments are the three major economic agents participating in economic operation. The economic activities of these three major economic agents make up the micro-base of macroeconomic operation. As microeconomic base not only restricts the selection of the macroeconomic regulation patterns, but also influences the effects of macroeconomic regulation system, to analyses the features and laws of the activities of the economic agents is of profound significance both in theory and in practice.In the last two decades of the 20th century, China underwent a mighty reform from the planned economy to the socialist market economy. Along with the transformation in the economic system, the economic activities of residents, enterprises and governments are also changing. Taking Marxist economic theory as guidance, adopting the fundamentals of contemporary economics, and comprehensively taking the research methods of standard analysis, empirical analysis, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, this paper explains more comprehensively and systematically the features of activities of the China's residents, enterprises and governments in different economic systems; analyses the changes of economic activities in terms of system; discusses the relations between the activities of the economic agents and macroeconomic regulations. Based on this, this paper puts forward some views on how to further mould a microeconomic base which consists with macroeconomic regulation of socialist market economy, and on how to normalize the activities of the economic agents.This paper is composed of a brief introduction and seven chapters. The contents are as follows:Introduction emphatically states the reason for the selection of the subject, the significance, the research methods and the framework of this paper.Chapter One analyses the general theory of economic agents. This chapter states respectively the connotation of the three major economic agents - residents, enterprises and governments, the formation and restrictive conditions of their economic activities.Chapter Two mainly states the basic assumptions of the economic activities of the economic agents. Firstly, this chapter studies the assumption of "Economic Man" and the rational activities in western economic theory from thehistory of economic theory; Secondly, this chapter analyses the "anticipation" assumption and "uncertainty" assumption in western economic theory; Lastly, it explains the adaptability of the basic assumptions in western economic theory to socialist market economy.Chapter Three approaches more systematically the features and the path of changes in China's residents' economic activities in different economic systems. Considering that residents are not only the owners of labor force but also consumers and savers, this chapter successively approaches the changes in residents5 labor force supply, consuming and saving or investing activities. This chapter also analyses the influence of residents' consuming and saving activities on economic operation.Chapter Four focuses on the features of China's enterprises' economic activities in different economic systems, reveals the path of changes in activities of enterprises as an economic agent and its influence on national economic operation. Firstly, this chapter analyses the enterprises' economic activities in the highly centralized planned economy; Secondly, it analyses the enterprises' economic activities in the double-track mechanism; Lastly, it analyses the enterprises' economic activities in socialist market economy.Chapter Five approaches the features of the economic activities of China's governments in different systems, analyses the changes in the economic activities of the central government and local governments, and the problems with the changes of government function.
