Road-Bridge Economy (RBE) originates from the combination and reintegration of modern transportation and contemporary economy. RBE can be seen as a new stage of world economic development, which is drawn from the analysis on the transportation development process, the integration process of transportation and economy, and the viewpoint of transportation evolution level as an indicator of economic development level. Modern economy can't survive without modern transportation, and modern transportation system is one of necessary conditions for economic development. Therefore, RBE is a symbol of the combination between modern transportation and economy and one important impetus for urban-rural development.RBE is the theme studied in this dissertation. Important impetuses for urban-rural development are discussed surrounding this theme. It is innovative research in Chinese economics field to explore the origin and evolvement law of RBE that has come from the combination of contemporary economy and transportations, especially modern highway transportation. The viewpoint that RBE development can promote urban-rural progress is also pioneer study for economics research in China. Following theoretical researches on the integration process of transportation and economy and practical summaries of current urban-rural situations, some topics related to RBE are studied, such as the connotation and character of its origin and evolvement, its industrial characteristics and functions, the connection between RBE and transportation consciousness, the relation between RBE progress and agriculture evolvement. The results of these studies are applied to assess the implementation of RBE development strategy and practical effects, and the importance of RBE advancement in urban-rural development is dissertated.There are 7 chapters in this dissertation.Chapter 1 is introduction. Main points of this dissertation are concentrated in this chapter. Study theme, research scope, topic significance, methodology and other primary problems are introduced after the analysis of transportation and economy' s interactive evolvement. Results and conclusions of previous researches are reviewed, and the structure and viewpoints of this study are briefly introduced.Chapter 2 focuses on the origin and evolvement of RBE. World economic development process is divided into 3 stages according to transportation progress:"River Economy (RE)", "Marine Economy (ME)" and "Road-Bridge Economy (RBE)". The origin, evolution, social-economic characteristics and implications of RE and ME are analyzed in detail and the origin and evolvement of RBE is introduced after these backgrounds.Chapter 3 explains the connotation and characteristics of RBE. It is elaborated that RBE is a new stage of economic development, which comes from the frequent interactivities between modern transportation and economy. Major characteristics of RBE such as transportation, social, economic, scientific and technologic aspects are analyzed and all of these characteristics reveal that RBE has become one of contemporary leading trends.Chapter 4 describes the industrial characteristics and functions of RBE. It is expatiated that transportation is a leading industry of economic development and the relations among transportation, social development and people' s living are also explained. It is illuminated that, the relation between transportation and economic development, is co-promoting and interdependent, dialectic and integrated.Chapter 5 brings forward proposals on how to enhance RBE consciousness and expedite economic development. It is elaborated that to promote RBE calls for transportation priority consciousness, to improve economic competitive ability through transportation improvement, to form an open transportation net through transportation priority consciousness and modern transportation net construction, to promote the implementation of "open to the world" policy and the unification of urban and rural areas with advanced transportation system.Chapter 6 dis...
