This research is based on the thinking and exploration of two basic questions. First, strategic management by its nature is a process of continuous dialogue between an enterprise and the changing environment Thus the change of environment requires a rethinking of the related questions of strategic management. At present, the environment is foil of variations, complexity and unpredictability, which results in a grand new landscape far different from the traditional one. So we must do the necessary research on the changes of behaviors of the enterprises in this new landscape. Strategic Renewal, as a continuous and dynamic adaptation process to non-linear environment, is one of the basic questions in this dissertation; the other one is the growth paradox in the development of an enterprise. Should an enterprise make more exploration or exploitation? How could it cope with the relationship between stability and change? How can we make a choice between these two types of completely contradictory alternations? Is there any possible solution?Research on the above two basic questions are the main themes of the dissertation. This dissertation tries to integrate them within a holistic analytical framework in a comprehensive way. Strategic Renewal under the dynamic environment is the basic object of this research, the dissertation explores effective solutions to the growth paradox along with the research on the former theme.From the perspectives of the content, process and context, this dissertation gives a systematic analysis and research on Strategic Renewal. The research from the perspective of the content tries to give an answer to the question of "what is Strategic Renewal", the research from the perspective of process tries to answer the question of "how to do the Strategic Renewal", while the research from the perspective of context tries to explore the questions of "by whom" and "where".In the research of Strategic Renewal from the perspective of content, the dissertation builds four basic configurations to effectively implement the Strategic Renewal with the help of Configuration Theory. As "ideal types", the four configurations can suit well to different kinds of competitive environments, and they also are the basicanalytical unit and language of the dissertation. Under a premise of a single-type enterprise or environment, each of these four configurations provides a solution to the growth paradox in a certain way.With the widening of the analytical scope and the closer to the reality, research from the perspective of the process expands the application scope of the four basic configurations, and the research is much closer to the practice of real enterprises. This dissertation discusses five implementation mechanisms of Strategic Renewal, each of them deals with and gives solution to the growth paradox, thus makes the growth paradox and Strategic Renewal integrated.During the process of the implementation of strategic renewal, what's the relationship between the enterprise and the environment? Does the environment determine the enterprise or the enterprise changes the environment? Or is there an interactive relationship between them? To be more specific, who should play the main role in the process of Strategic Renewal? Should it be the top-level managers? Or the low-level managers? Is there any other possibility? The dissertation discusses the engines of the Strategic Renewal with a co-evolutionary framework. The dissertation shows that as a specific activity existing in a certain environment, different actors can play different roles in the process of Strategic Renewal, so there exist diverse kinds of engines. On the basis of the comparative analysis, the dissertation discusses the fundamental elements of a reasonable strategic renewal.Research from the perspectives of content, process and context consist the systematic research on Strategic Renewal under the dynamic environment.
