In the course of modernization, the development of economy, the democratization of politics and the prosperity of society put up requirements for social spiritual resources, As the basic aboriginal source and the core inner drive, national spirit underlies the realization of the dialectical unity of tradition and modernization, nationality and globalization. Set in the historical context of human civilization and based on the realistic construction of Chinese modernization, this thesis studies the contemporary construction of the Chinese national spirit from a interdisciplinary and macroscopic perspective.This thesis, firstly, theoretically analyses the national spirit and the Chinese national spirit, clarifies the ascending value of the national spirit in the course of modernization; then, it focuses on the consistency and conflict between the Chinese traditional national spirit and modernization, delves into the features, principles and methods of constructing the Chinese national spirit in the contemporary time, and puts forward approaches to this construction. During the course of human beings' struggling for self-survival and development, National Spirit is a self-conscious ideology and culture criterion for increasing realizing self-emancipation, which is based on national survival and development.Its connotation includes: National Spirit is not the existence of abstract words or meaning but the ideology and cultural criterion based on national survival and development.This ideology and the cultural criterion are formed in the course of seeking for self-survival and development. Social development is the history premise of the producing and constructing of National Spirit. People themselves realize the ideology and cultural criterion and put them into social practice actively. National Spirit shows that it is also a rational attitude of fulfilling and seeking of their own accord. National survival and development are value scales of putting into practice the connotation of National Spirit. Basic characteristics of National Spirit is era, historic and practical.
