"in Theory" And The Harmonious Development Of Our Society

Against the background of constructing harmonious society in contemporary China, combining the mean thought in Chinese traditional culture and relevant theories of modern methodology, based on reconsidering the mean thought, this dissertation puts forward and analysis the notion of"the Mean Reasoning"in the sense of modern methodology. From this perspective, this dissertation discusses the construction of harmonious society from the aspects of man-nature, man-man, and man-society.As a core category of Chinese traditional culture, the mean thought represents a governing ideology in politics, behavior rule in morality and ethics, and epistemology and methodology in philosophy. It almost runs through all aspects of Chinese traditional culture, deeply rooting in the thinking of Chinese people. In the sense of methodology, the mean thought was systematically exercised in production and living of the"mean"conception formed in the early human society, such as holding the two and using the middle, being harmonious albeit differences, going too far is as bad as not going far enough, and being adaptable in tactics and balancing out. The mean thought had played an important methodological role in Chinese thousand-years of life, while it was imperfect.This dissertation argues that an important attentive to overcome the shortcomings of the mean thought and fully use its methodological function is to combine the reasonable core of the mean thought and modern methodology. The methodology combined in this way can be defined as"the Mean Reasoning". The Mean Reasoning is a scientific conception. As a detailed exercising method,"the Mean Reasoning"consists of the combination of holding the two and using the middle and unity and contradiction, going too far is as bad as not going far enough and quality, quantity, and degree, being harmonious albeit differences and modern systematic theory, and being adaptable in tactics and balancing out and discussing a concrete analysis in concrete conditions. As a fundamental regulation of methodology,"the Mean Reasoning"refers to moderation, balance and peace and cooperation. Harmony is the value estimation criteria of"the Mean Reasoning"."The Mean Reasoning"not only accords with the tide of age such as human's desire for peace and development, building a harmonious world, but also summarizes the experiences of our modernization practice. It can be used as an important methodology for constructing harmonious society, in order to promote our society development harmoniously.An important premise to promote the harmony between human and nature is to realize the harmonious development of our society. The disharmonies between human and nature in our society resulted from the nature view, merit value and development value of industry age, that were fundamentally wrong in that their departure"the Mean Reasoning"in thinking ways. To promote the harmony of human-nature, we must attach importance to the exertion of moderation, balance and peace and cooperation in"the Mean Reasoning", and erect harmonious nature view, scientific nature ecology value, and scientific development view.The realistic individual and his engaging practices are the starting points for surveying all social activities of humankind. Thereafter, individual's self-harmony and interpersonal harmony has a fundamental meaning to the harmony of a society. But in reality, in the level of individual, there are increasingly mental unbalances and lack of ideals and devotions in contemporary society; in the level of interpersonal relations, human relations of equality, friendship, honesty, and tolerance is still in forming. To promote the harmony of man-man, we must also attach importance to the exertion of moderation, balance and peace and cooperation in"the Mean reasoning". Sticking to the moderation principle, we should promote the individual body-and-mind harmony; taking the two sides of"Me"and"He"to deal with the human relations; and harmonize the human relations by integrate exertion of morality education and laws.People always live in a society, and a society is composed of people. People's integration into a society is an important criterion on the harmony extent of the development of a society. As for contemporary Chinese society, social stratum differentiation is increasing pluralistic; as a result, differences in interest distribution and social integration became more and more evident, affecting the harmonious development of our society. In the issue of promoting harmony among social classes, the methodology senses of"the Mean Reasoning"mainly incarnate that, on the level of human, we should set up new collectivism value which giving attention to both the collective benefits and individual benefits; on the level of society, we should perfect the benefit-harmonizing mechanism of different social classes, and enlarge the middle class.
