Modernity and modernization are the two inherently united aspects. Modernization is a process in which the traditional agricultural society transformed into modern industrial society, and the realization or completion of modernization symbolized the end of this process. The third scientific and technological revolution is promoting the Western developed countries' transition to postmodern times, entering into post-modern era whose symbol is informationization. Modernity is the dominant philosophy and spiritual values of modern society. As the bourgeoisie's ideology, it originated from the period of Renaissance, formed in the Enlightenment and the criticism of and reflection to German rational philosophy. The essence of Modernity is the people's subjectivity, and it is the unification of humanism and individualism and rationalism which are based on people's subjectivity. Modernity is the spiritual impetus which promotes the traditional society to transform into a modern society. The relationship between modernity and modernization is that between the ideal and reality. The realization of the value ideals of modernity depends on modernization and the process of modernization also constantly amends the value ideals of modernity. Modernization is a natural historical process of the development of human society, has the objective necessity that is independent of man's will, and also is the historical fate that any nation can not evade. Modernity is the spirit philosophy of modernization. Although its essence is to reflect the inevitability of social modernization, after all, it exists in the subjective areas of human, and has the subjective and artifical characteristics. People can accommodate it according to social development law and the necessity of people's free and comprehensive development, making modernity reflect the meaning and significance of people. Modernity is an entity of contradiction. Socialist Theory with Chinese Characteristics is a scientific theory for China to achieve its modernization.
