As the world enters the 21st century, the higher education (HEd) in China has made a great progress and realized two important changes in its development. One is that a sudden transition has taken place from elite HEd to mass HEd. The other is that a hard shift is undergoing from bureaucratic condition to market force, with the country's change from a planned economy to a market economy. However, on the context of changing time, the HEd in China is always being puzzled by two key questions: How can China develop its HEd more quickly in near future in order to reduce the pressure caused by the tension between the high demand of people at age cohort for going to college and the limited supply of institutions of HEd? How the contradiction between shortage of high-quality expertise and specialists the labor-market are demanding and difficulties of job-seeking that many graduates are facing can be alleviated as soon as possible? Those two kinds of strained contradictions show that there still exists an imbalance between demand and supply in the development of HEd in China today. Therefore, the question of how to find a valid way to mitigate the conflicts and contradictions between demand and supply of HEd becomes one of the most important issues at agenda necessary for being focused on and discussed by academia and society.This dissertation is based on the following theoretical hypothesis: The structure of interest-entity in HEd in China has changed with the establishment of market economy. As different interest entities such as the governments, the institutions, the students and the enterprises have all become the interest entities which will pursue maximum interests of their own, the problems concerning with the interest of different entities have become apparent. Some contradiction and conflict have also risen and this shows the urgency of establishing a new institution of demand and supply of HEd.On the basis of this premise, this paper expounds the concept, nature and feature of demand-supply of interest-entity in HEd at the outset. By the framework and methodology of "Economy Man" in economics, the paper completely analyzes the theoretical and practical issues on interest-entity of demand-supply relationship in HEd under the condition and background of market economy.
