Marx's historical materialism is this paper's directed idea. Applying its standpoints and methods to the real problems of the alienated education from the world of life, and the importance of education under the social background of modemlization, industrialization, information or communication in China. This paper investgats the master of pragmatism, Dewey's philosophy of education, unscrambling its main text, and appraising it again, in order to explain its intendment, historical status, and contemporary significance, offer constructive opinions to the present age Chinese' philosophy of education and mordern educational reform.This article mostly includes three parts: introduction; the first chanpter to the fifth chapter; the sixth chapter.During the indroduction, firstly, the article's theory purport is elicited by the real problems of the alienated education from the world of life. Then, introduces the industrialization socail revolution background in America; generalizes the main principles and opinitions Dewey's philosophy of education; explains its modern Western philosophical context, its thinking dimensionality of the philosophy of education, the inner association with pragmatism, and progressive education movement; and reflects the hitorical experience and encounter of Dewey's philosophy of education in China. The article indicates that we should exactly look on the finity of Dewey's philosophy of education under the reseaching sight of historical materialism, and greatly, possibly discover its all constructive values and meanings.From the first chanpter to the fifth chapter, mainly unscrambling its text, including three threads. The first, Dewey's philosophy of education replies to the traditional dualism with the principle of continuity of life, experience. The second, explores its main concepts, principles, and opinions of philosophy and education, for example, "experience", "experiment", "democracy", and so on, explains its naturalism, humanism, realism, regards it as a philosophy of practice, action, process, and life.
