The Dissertation endeavors to do hard research work on the historical development of the theory and practice of the national education in Europe and America in the middle of the 18th century and in the early part of the 19th century. It tries to analyse and understand, from three-dimensional key elements including man, nation and state (forms of government) , the distinct forms and contents of the theory of the national education as an ideology in France, Britain, Germany and U. S. A. during this period, meanwhile it makes efforts to find the inner developing logic of the thoughts of the national education, thereby it probes into the internal relations between the theory of the national education and the rise of the state educational systems. The dissertation holds that the thoughts of the national education in modern western world, originates from France, like a reservoir of thought full of the educational wisdom, in which the general arguments, such as the education on the forms of the government, the formation of the character, state education and nationalistic education, are set forth. Under its influences, European and American countries actively explore and practise the thoughts of the national education suited to their historical conditions. In eduational practice presents the strong subject consciousness of the mankind, so the dissertation points out that it is impossible for Fichte to epitomize the theory of the national education without the subject consciousness.
